Classification and use of taps
Classification and use of taps
The classification of taps mainly includes the following:
Classification by shape :
Straight groove taps: suitable for the processing of through holes and blind holes, suitable for the processing of short-chip materials, such as gray cast iron, etc., but the thread quality is average
Spiral groove tap: suitable for blind hole processing with hole depth less than or equal to 3D, iron filings are discharged along the spiral groove, and the thread surface quality is high. Depending on the helix angle, threads of different depths can be machined
Screw taps: Mainly used for through-hole machining, iron filings are discharged downward, the cutting torque is small, and the thread surface quality is high. It is suitable for through-hole machining with an aspect ratio of up to 3D~3.5D
Blade inclination tap: also known as screw tap, mainly used for through-hole machining, high cutting quality
Classification by use environment:
Hand taps: suitable for manual operation, usually made of carbon tool steel or alloy tool steel
Machine taps: suitable for machine tool operation, usually made of high-speed steel grinding teeth, with high manufacturing precision
Classification by processing method:
Cutting taps: Threads are formed by cutting materials, suitable for a wide range of materials
Extrusion taps: Threads are formed by the plastic deformation of the material, which is suitable for plastic materials
Classification by specification :
Metric taps: suitable for machining metric threads.
American taps: suitable for the processing of American threads.
Inch taps: suitable for machining inch threads
Uses of taps :
Straight flute taps: suitable for the processing of short-chip materials, such as gray cast iron, etc
Spiral flute tap: suitable for blind hole processing, especially suitable for processing non-through-hole threads, which can smoothly discharge iron filings and ensure high thread surface quality
Screw taps: Mainly used for through-hole machining, with high cutting quality, suitable for through-hole machining with a large aspect ratio
