The quality judgment of fastener electroplating layer - Distribution of plating layer
Distribution of plating layer
Using different depositing methods, the gathering of the plating layer on the surface of the fastener is also different. When plating, the plated metal is not uniformly deposited on the peripheral edges, and thicker plating is obtained at the corners. On the threaded portion of the fastener, the thickest plating is located at the top of the threaded tooth and tapers along the side of the thread, with the thinnest deposits at the bottom of the tooth.
The opposite is true for hot-dip galvanizing, where thicker layers are deposited on the inside corners and at the bottom of the threads. Mechanical plating has the same tendency to deposit the plated metal as hot-dip plating, but it is smoother and much more uniform in thickness over the entire surface.
